Youjo Senki Season 2 Announcement!

Hello everyone and welcome back to Tiro Finale for a major announcement. After what seems like an eternity, the second season of Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil) is finally official. Since the anime's first episode in 2017 followed by the movie in 2019, it only felt like a matter of time before the second season would be officially announced. Many were expecting more information about the second season following the conclusion of the movie especially since it clearly was leading up to a new arc by the end of it.

Nevertheless, weeks turned into months into years as little information about the second season. In the two years since then, Tanya's only other appearances were in the Youjo Senki mobile game (till today a Japan-only affair) and in Isekai Quartet. As time grew on, there was genuine concern that the second season would not be happening especially when the pandemic finally hit. Outside of the animated media, Youjo Senki's light novel and manga were going strong which served as some basis of hope for fans.

To be fair, no one was really expecting much of an announcement at this time of the year. So when the announcement that Youjo Senki's anime and movie was scheduled once more for a re-run this year, I did not think too much of it. There was even mention of a special announcement at the end of the re-run marathon but, even then, I did not think too much of it.

After all, the past few special announcements for the series, while welcomed, were limited to domestic affairs such as the mobile game and the Isekai Museum. So you could certainly imagine my excitement when I woke up to check my Twitter feed to find out that Season 2 is finally official.

Four years on from its initial release, Tanya will be back once more for a second season with the entire cast from the first season and movie resuming their roles in the second season. Not only do we get the splendid animation studio (Studio NUT)  and writing team back once more, Yuuki Aoi will also reprise her role as Tanya Degurechaff. In my opinion, she was a big part of the success of the initial series and knowing that she is once again going to voice Tanya lets me know that the second season is in good hands!

No release date or further information has been released besides the cast. Knowing that Studio NUT is back on production for Season 2 has me with little concerns as the studio's very first project was Youjo Senki and, as of now, they haven't any other active productions. As such, it should not be too long before we get further information about the next season.

In fact, we have already gotten a little teaser of things to come with the release of a special animate short, Youjo Senki: Sabaku no Pasta (translated: Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Desert Pasta). I have avoided any plot points of this special specifically to avoid spoilers though, it seemingly does take place in a desert and involves pasta somehow.

So, what's next? Well, while I await the release of the second season, I will finally be catching up on the second season of Isekai Quartet and re-watching the movie. Which reminds me, I have to watch the Rising of the Shield Hero first before I can even contextualize the contents of Isekai Quartet's second season. Looks like I will be rather occupied until the next season comes out. Rest assured, I will be keeping my eyes and ears out for any bit of new info about the new season. Until then, thank you so much for reading and have yourself a wonderful day ahead!
