Twinkle Dolly Puella Magi Madoka Magica Candy Toy
More mini-figures for the Madoka Magica series? Yes, please! This time, our friends over at Bandai's Candy Division has decided to release 4 new "Candy Toys" from the Madoka Magica series not-so-simply called, Twinkle Dolly Puella Magi Madoka Magica. If you like me were unaware of the Twinkle Dolly series, that is because it is a new line of candy toys that Bandai produced starting with the Sailor Moon series.
Moving down the line of progression, the next most popular Magical Girl (Mahou Shoujo) series would be Madoka Magica albeit not for the same reasons as Sailor Moon. Also unlike Sailor Moon, not every member of the Magica Quartet will be making an appearance being limited to Madoka, Homura, Mami and Bebe(!!). These 4 charms will be released simultaneously in April 2017 and sell for 800 Yen each (before tax). For that, you get a character charm and a pack of candy (chewing gum in this case) hence the name, candy toy. They will be available nationwide (Japan, of course) in AEON stores, toy stores and several electronics and grocery stores as well as online retailers. Without further ado, let us take a closer look at the charms themselves.
Madoka & Soul Gem |
While I am usually not a fan of Madoka, I must admit this charm does look really nice and the choice of pink Bandai has decided to go with is spot on. I can only hope they retain it for the mass-production versions.
Homura & Dark Orb |
I can understand some people wanting Magical Girl Homura but, Bandai has chosen to keep up with the Rebellion story-line. Also worth noting is that Bandai has specifically pointed out that it
uses clear plastics for the "gems" to produce a sparkling, glittering
effect. I am not sure about sparkling and glittering but, I sure like
what they have done here.
Bebe & Nagisa's Soul Gem |
What can I say besides, Bebe!!! Notice Bebe balancing a tea cup on her head? Do not forget the cheese too.
Mami & Soul Gem |
While this may sound a little biased coming from me, I honestly think Mami looks the best among the four. Her yellow really makes her stand out apart from the rest and her twin drills are just absolutely perfect.
Together with the charm and candy, you also get an ornamental box with a window displaying each character. No blind boxes here, you get what you pay for and that in itself is extremely satisfying. That being said, candy toys tend to sell for a rather short period. So unless you will be in Japan during that duration, getting hold of one may be a little tough. Fortunately, online-retailer like AmiAmi are offering pre-orders albeit in a pack of 6 meaning you would be receiving 2 extra charms of the same character.
Looks like Sayaka and Kyouko fans will have to wait. |
Overall though, I am really excited for these charms especially considering it has been a while since Bandai releases any Madoka Magica merchandise. I just really hope Bandai is able to replicate the detail and quality shown in these samples as they are really good despite costing only 800 Yen! I will just have to figure out how to get my hands on them. What about you? Are you excited about this news or are you instead waiting on news of bigger, better scale figures? Do let me know what you think in the comments section below. Until then, thank you so much for reading and have yourself a great day ahead!
