Mega Jumbo Nesoberi Tanya Degurechaff Review
Hello everyone and welcome to another product review on Tiro Finale! Today, we will be taking a look at Sega's Mega Jumbo Nesoberi Tanya Degurechaff from the popular series, Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil). If you are not familiar with the series, all you need to know is that the inexplicably cute blonde is the titular character, Tanya, of the series' English title. On top of her cute looks, this little girl is also a sociopath capable of massive destruction. Fortunately all of that destructive power is left behind the books and television screens, as Nesoberi Tanya is a wholesome package of just cuteness. Without further ado, let us take a closer look at this little devil.
Being part of Sega's lineup of Mega Jumbo Nesoberi plush toys, Tanya measure a whopping 40 cm in length from head to toe. More than her length, the first thing you notice about Tanya is the sheer size of her head. All Nesoberi plush toys have comically large heads to begin with but, Tanya's is defiantly more voluminous even by Mega Jumbo Nesoberi standards.
Having had three normal sized Tanya Nesoberi(s) released earlier, Sega decided to go with Tanya's standard issue Empire military uniform. The uniform is almost entirely military green with only red accents and a brown belt to break the monotony of the outfit's color scheme. Nevertheless, it is a good fit to both Tanya's character image and a fitting color to match her blonde locks.
Speaking of blonde locks, Tanya also have one of the busiest hair detailing I have seen in a Nesoberi in quite a while. With a messy middle parting and hair freely flowing on the side, this is certainly one high maintenance Nesoberi with her hair frequently curling up of clumping together if left unattended to for a while. Despite all of that, I really love how Sega opted to stay true to the character adaptation of Tanya in the anime.
And indeed Sega has been very faithful with their reproduction of Tanya in Nesoberi form not just in her hair but, even down to her eyes and facial expressions. Where most Nesoberi(s) would receive comical all-white eyes, Tanya retains her beautifully stitched blue eyes and bushy eyelashes. This is similar to Nesoberi Nero I reviewed earlier this month albeit with a more appropriate size.
When picking out my Nesoberi Tanya at the shops, I made sure to pick one with little to no mistakes in the stitching of her eyes. Having looked at various Nesoberi Tanya(s), I can confidently assure that Sega has done a good job in the quality control department to ensure that the stitching is completed to a high level with only the most minor variances among Tanya(s). The most noticeable differences in stitching pattern would be at the ends of each stitch but, really, the differences are minor at most.
Tanya is also one of the few Nesoberi I have ever come across with a frowning expression. But, in this case, Tanya's frowning expression looks less angry and more cute. Seriously cute!
Earlier when I mentioned that Tanya's Nesoberi form had incredibly detailed hair, that fact extends even to the outer periphery of her hair. Where most Nesoberi plush toys would have a rounded of head, Tanya's is flared with all sorts of little locks of hair such as those at the side of her head.
Even Tanya's emotive cowlick (ahoge) is replicated in Nesoberi form! Fun fact, Tanya's emotive cowlick is actually in reference to Araragi from the Monogatari Series who (together with her sisters) have an emotive cowlick in the anime adaptation of the series.
Due to the sheer size of Tanya's cowlick, it has trouble staying upright often falling over either to the back or the front. Moving towards the back of her head, there is also Tanya's ponytail which is now a fluffy bit at the back of her head.
When viewed from atop, Tanya's military uniform is rather bland with not too many details. The shoulder pads, collar and cuff highlights are clearly visible together with her brown belt and gray boots.
But, flip her over to the other side and that is where the bulk of the uniform's detailing resides. Together with more red highlights, there are also Tanya's office badges denoting her rank in the military together with Elinium Type 95 mage tool.
Tanya's hands are free to move as they are not stitched to her head. There is also a separation in material type from the smooth fabric surface of her uniform to the fluffier fabric surface of her hands.
Just like the hands, all Nesoberi(s) come with stubby feet. Stubby feet and hands together with a big round head, trademark of any Nesoberi. You either love it or hate it but, you would definitely love it. I am sure of it.
From an objective standpoint, Nesoberi Tanya absolutely ticks all the right boxes. One might not expect too much from a plush toy especially in terms of detail reproduction but, Sega has absolutely, in my opinion, gone above and beyond their usual standard in making a faithful character reproduction of Tanya in a plush toy form.
The decision to keep her original eyes together with her frowning expression was made in the original normal-sized Nesoberi and retained for the much large Mega Jumbo Nesoberi. In a way, this almost looks like a scaled-down version of Tanya rather than a deformed scale version of her owing to her child proportions to begin with. For that reason, the Mega Jumbo Nesoberi Tanya seems to strike a perfect balance that the original, smaller sized Nesoberi fail to deliver.
Having been released in mid-July 2017, Tanya is still plentifully available in the market and finding her online can be done in relative ease. If you are in Japan, chances are you would still be able to find her in the arcade's UFO Catcher machines. In stores, both physical and electronic, expect to find her selling for 1,200-1,500 Yen. At that price, I consider this gem to be a real steal! If you are planning on getting her, do it soon before her stocks run out.
Nesoberi Attack! |
And so, the collection of Nesoberi continues to grow in my repertoire of oversized plush toys. Will the collection stop? Probably not any time soon as another mischievous oversized plush is already on her way from Japan to my place.
With that, we come to an end of our review of Sega's Mega Jumbo Nesoberi Tanya Degurechaff. If you have watched or read the Youjo Senki series, enjoyed it and would like to support the series, I would strongly recommend you get this. Not only is it cheaper than a figure, it is infinitely larger and cute too!
If you have any questions about Tanya or the review, feel free to ask them in the comments section below. I would love to hear what you have to say. Until then, thank you so much for reading and have yourself a wonderful day ahead!
Do you happen to know what exactly type of fabric she is made out of?
ReplyDeleteI can't say I know the exact fabric type but, it does feel like cotton with some amounts of polyester fiber in it.
