Chiba Days 37 - Anime Posters & Tapestries
Hello everyone and welcome back to Tiro Finale for another chapter of Chiba Days. Today, I put forth a rather simple question but, perhaps one that is more profound that it initially appears to be. Have you ever realized how much effort is put into the promotional posters and tapestries in the anime industry? Often taken for granted, these promotional materials are often overlooked but, upon closer inspection it becomes immediately evident that a lot of time and effort have clearly been put into making them. Yet all this time, we hardly ever notice it until the contrary occurs.
Take for example this poster for the Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, I have little to no knowledge or interest about the series. Yet, I find myself strangely drawn towards it as if beckoning to know more about the series. While I would ultimately forget about it a few days after, for those fleeting moments, my attention was completely stolen. But, that was fine because the poster had served its sole purpose as a marketing tool.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that short of Hollywood and major video game industries, nothing tops the anime-industry in terms of posters. In an industry where visuals play such an important role, the anime industry fully comprehends the need to deliver the core message of each series convincingly through each poster and tapestry made. More than just high quality art, I believe it stems very much from the passion and love that many creators in Japan put into their work and this work standard is conversely translated into.
When you think of it that way, it quickly becomes no surprise that posters of many of the most iconic and successful series sell for a fortune. Especially if the poster/tapestry in question is related to a theatrical release. Personally, I believe the effort put into making such high quality promotional material is an essential building block into anime's popularity as a whole in today's global industry.
With that, we come to the end of this little food for thought. If you have any questions or opinions on the matter, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. Until the next time, thank you so much for reading and have yourself a wonderful day ahead!
