Nendoroid Ai-chan
Hi everyone, this time around we'll be looking at a nendoroid of Ai-chan! This week I was around when snwlprd was unboxing Ai-chan and was gonna snap some shots of the new nendoroid. Now, normally we would have just used the DSLR sitting round the corner, but snwplrd was thinking it would be a fun little idea to see what the little snapper on my Nokia 6 could do. Macro shots with a non-top of the range phone camera, under a single old house light. Not ideal, but its what we've got!
Ai-chan is the main heroine from the webcomic on Twitter by artist Himura Kiseki, all drawn in his signature blue monochrome theme. Posted weekly on Mondays, it snapshots of the lives of various characters in some Japanese city (or just Tawawaland), with the stated purpose to give just a little motivation to workers and students to help with the Monday blues.
Relatively basic as far as Nendoroids go, Ai-chan comes with the standard 3 face plates (the usual neutral smiling face, a winking one, and another with a teasing/smug expression), interchangeable arm parts for different poses, a smartphone, her schoolbag, and a paperbag with some random goods to put in it, and fingerpuppet in a suit. The main gimmick of this one is a a alternate bust unit, this one featuring, as the promotional material put it, soft breast. In a tactile sense, it feels like hollow rubber, kinda like those fancy shaped mouse pads. Functionality-wise though its otherwise identical to the normal bust, but since the smartphone can stay just fine on that one, this might very well be not much more than a gimmick for recreating the infamous Tawawa challenge scene with the fingerpuppet, so there's that.
Quality-wise, there is nothing much for me to complain about. The usual quality material and paintwork are still present. Being a relatively recent Nendoroid in the 800s, the parts are also fit together much tighter, avoiding the very very annoying experience of random things falling off when installing some other parts like the older models. Even the smartphone somehow stays very stably on her bust during >60 degree tilts! The joints are also nicely stiff, the quite a bit of force needed for even small movements helping out a lot with fine adjustments. Interestingly enough, the arm parts specifically have little to no range of movement in order to accommodate for Ai-chan's exceptionally shapely bust for a Nendoroid. It's a solid little figure, and admittedly Ai-chan here is looks really cute <3
Well that does it for this small write-up on nendoroid Ai-chan. Maybe, like Tawawa we made your day just a liiitle bit better. That would be nice. See you next time!
