Super Sonico Holy Girl (Blue Version) Unboxing
Hello everyone and welcome back to Tiro Finale. Today, we will be doing a quick unboxing of FuRyu's Super Sonico Holy Girl Concept Figure. Yes, we have done an unboxing of this very same prize figure way back in 2017 when she was first released as a prize figure. But today, we will be taking a look at the alternate colorway, the Blue Version, instead.
Compared to the original Black Version, Sonico is physically identical with the only difference being the color of her nun "Holy Girl" outfit being metallic blue rather than the matte black that one would normally have come to expect. The change in color scheme is also reflected in the packaging of Sonico's box with blue being the primary color for the dark accents on the box as opposed to black.
Otherwise, the contents and illustrations on the box remain the same with your usual warnings and legal documentation being printed on the back of the box.
Fast forward two years and FuRyu still remains to be one of the few prize figure manufacturers who use compact dimension boxes. Other manufacturers would often employ oversized boxes partly as a way to make the prizes more difficult to obtain in arcade crane machines and the like. But FuRyu has always been a little more sensible in their box dimensions in that regards.
So much so, that there is only barely enough space in the box for Sonico and her base. Huddled around a simple piece of brown cardboard, there is simply Sonico wrapped in bubble wrap and her round base with its Halloween-like motif.
The base remains completely identical to the one seen in the black version. While a metallic blue version of the base would have been a nice touch, black was probably chosen to save on costs by allowing all the bases to be made in a large batch.
Meanwhile, the figure itself is wrapped in two layers of protective plastic covering. The first, is the aforementioned bubble wrap keeping Sonico safe from all forms of unwanted knocks and bumps. Within it, lies another layer of clear plastic acting as a separation barrier between Sonico and the slightly rougher surface of the bubble wrap.
Even after you have unwrapped Sonico from her two layers, there is yet another plastic sheet within placed between parts which may come in contact with each other. Namely, her shawl and gloves. This sheet of plastic is a common sight in many premium figures and Nendoroid(s), and serves to prevent any paint transfer between the parts. Nice to see that FuRyu has included it in their prize figures especially since Sonico know has a shinier metallic finish for her dress.
Compared to the normal version, the Blue Version's key selling point clearly lies in its namesake with a dazzling metallic blue finish for her dress. While the seams in her outfit do become more obvious, the metallic blue finish also perfectly accentuates Sonico's lines and curves in a way that often became rather muted in the matte black version.
Of course, this is a FuRyu prize figure. As such, the quality, as far as prize figures go, is rather exceptional. Between the two colors, I really have a hard time picking between the two and that is why I ultimately went with both. If you would like to know more about this figure, make sure to check out my initial review of her and, yes, I am happy to report that the Blue Version does indeed inject the much needed uniqueness to it.
In our next installment, we will have a complete gallery featuring Sonico in her lovely blue dress. So, do stay tuned for that.
