Figure Wishlist - Wave DreamTech Super Sonico Bikini Style
Hello everyone and welcome back to Tiro Finale for another chapter of the Figure Wishlist, the series where I ponder the value of sinking my hard earned cash into even more figure pre-orders. This week, we will be taking a look at one figure that I have had my eye on for quite a long time and had even considered multiple times whether or not, I should write an entire article about. Before that, a quick update to the previous chapter where I can happily report that I have, after a lengthy deliberation period, have pre-ordered MegaHouse's Kusanagi Motoko from SAC 2045.
With that out of the way, it is time to get to the focus of the article which, by now, should be a fairly recognizable character (Super Sonico) in a similarly expected skimpy outfit. That being said, this particular Super Sonico bikini figure is unlike all the others which have come before it. Yes, there has been numerous Super Sonico figures in swimsuits and bikinis. And yes, this very manufacturer has also made several Super Sonico bikini figures in the past too. Both of which I have already covered in two separate Figure Wishlist chapters. So, what makes this particular Super Sonico figure so different or seemingly special as I make it out to be?
As I alluded to its manufacturer earlier, this particular Super Sonico figure is manufactured by Wave. Famed for their Beach Queens series, Wave is tasked with bringing to life a special illustration by Santa Tsuji to commemorate the Super Sonico Channel getting over 30,000 subscribers. For that task, a simple Beach Queens figure would not have sufficed. So Wave has instead decided to incorporate this Super Sonico figure as part of their, higher end lineup of figures, the DreamTech line.
As a company, Wave is first and foremost a hobby company known primarily their hobbyist tools and plastic scale models. While they have always had a side business in making bishoujo figures, that has never been their claim to fame. Unlike dedicated figures manufacturers like Good Smile Company, Wave are actually best known for making tools. To many figure collectors, Wave is best known for their Beach Queens series of affordable small scale swimsuit character figurines. But their true flagship works actually comes from their DreamTech lineup of figures. I have only ever owned one DreamTech figure, a Mami one naturally, and it is indeed the culmination of Wave's figure making know how which has only improved with each new figure they have released.
Aside from packing all of Wave's bells and whistles and coming in a delightful 1/7 scale, this Sonico figure also nails one very, very important aspect which merits it to even be in the consideration for being featured in the Figure Wishlist. That is, the proportions. Too often have I renounced many Sonico figures solely upon failing to get her proportions right. Yet, it is an error which seemingly rears its head all too often. Fortunately, Wave has absolutely hit the nail on the head with Sonico's proportions here especially apparent when you take a closer look at her hips and thighs.
Slated for release in October 2020, Wave's DreamTech Super Sonico is currently available for pre-order on most major hobby sites. Being a relatively simplistic figure, Wave are also retailing her for an entirely reasonable asking price of 14,960 Yen. If you pre-order her on AmiAmi, you can even get a further 1,560 Yen discount.Unfortunately, she does not ship with any pre-order bonuses.
