Figure Wishlist - figma Kusanagi Motoko SAC_2045 Version

Hello everyone and welcome back to Tiro Finale for another chapter of the Figure Wishlist. As far as the characters I am interested go, it has been a rather slow year in terms of releases and announcement. Whether or not this is due to the global pandemic slowing production processes down is something I am unsure of. What I do know is that a good number of prototype figures that I have been keeping an eye out for have yet to materialize since their initial conception. Fortunately, there is one figure which has managed to avoid figure limbo. In fact, it is, as of writing, currently available for pre-order too.

That figure is of course the new figma Kusanagi Motoko from her latest outing in Netflix's Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 anime. Released by Good Smile Company and manufactured by Max Factory, this is actually the Major's third foray into the figma series of highly maneuverable scale figures. Her first two iterations were from the original Stand Alone Complex anime and the subsequent Arise movie, each representing a different interpretation of the Major.

The SAC_2045 version is no different, staying true to the latest interpretation of the Major. Prior figma version of Motoko would be fairly sparse, only including her regular arsenal of firearms and several alternative face plates. The latest version of Motoko changes things up a little with the addition of an entirely new torso piece. One with the jacket and another, without it. I am personally a very big fan of the jacket version especially the reflective metallic purple finish of it.

Normally armed with a pistol as her sidearm and an assault rifle, SAC_2045's Motoko gets a refreshed armory in line with that seen in the anime. Her assault rifle is a modern interpretation of the Seburo C30 assault rifle. Now in more compact, carbine-like proportions with flush accessories, this version of the Seburo rifle is potentially easier to pose with.

Together with the refreshed Seburo assault rifle, Motoko also sees a change in her pistol sidearm from the Seburo M-5 to Sig Saeur's P226. Slight variations can be noted in the weapon's under barrel attachment whereas the one wielded by Motoko in the anime did not have an under barrel attachment. Nevertheless, she does use a railed version of the P226 in the anime making the an attachment such as this fairly viable.

Despite the rather sparse number of accessories, the figma Kusanagi Motoko SAC_2045 version is priced on the higher side of things at, 8,182 Yen (after taxes). Even AmiAmi's prices are not much lower at, 7,470 Yen. While it may be a tough pill to swallow, it is also important to remember that the past two figma version of Motoko have always gone up in price post-release. The lack of pre-order bonuses and the rather lukewarm reception to the anime may change that with this particular version. But that, is a risk I am not willing to take.

What about you? Would you be willing to wait and see how things go in the re-sellers market or would you pre-order it and not risk that? I would love to hear your thought in the comments section below. Until then, thank you so much for reading and have yourself a wonderful day ahead!
