JRPGs of E3 2019

Wow! What a line-up of JRPGs for the coming months. Now, during the time of writing, Nintendo had not yet given their conference. But there's already so many games to talk about! So, I will be talking about some of the most hype JRPGs presented thus far!

Firstly, Tales of Arise. Yes! A new flagship Tales title taking place in a whole new universe with an all new cast of characters. Now, while everything else is fine and dandy, the biggest changes come in the form of the upgraded graphics and combat system. I have been asking for this for a while now so I'm glad they're finally doing it.

We only saw snippets of the combat but from what I saw, it definitely still retains a lot of it's action JRPG vibe but now with a modern twist. Dodging is actually satisfying and doesn't feel lacklustre, skill execution is rewarded with some stunning visuals and more importantly, it does seem like they're going for seamless combat as opposed to the combat matrix they always preferred.

We don't know much about the game but they have confirmed it as a 2020 release. I'm assuming it's coming Fall 2020 but I guess they'll announce more next time around.

Next! We got a new Persona 5 Royal trailer. Well, it's actually the same trailer as before but this time with the English voice cast! Obviously, you guys know I'm super excited for this and I absolutely cannot wait for it. It's announced to be coming in English in 2020! Again, another heavy hitter!

Alongside P5R, what did we get? Two new trailers for Trails of Cold Steel 3 in English! I am a major fan of the franchise and I was tripping balls (no one else was). We've got a release date of September 24 2019 and now I'm just in super hype mode. Only a couple of months till release!

Finally, Square Enix showed off a LOT of stuff regarding Final Fantasy VII. They detailed the combat system and honestly, it looks pretty good. It's mostly real-time combat with skill and magic execution tied to a sort of slow-mo tactical mode? You can also bind them to hotkeys for instant execution but for most of it, it does seem like we'll have to make use of this tactical mode a la FFXV.

They showed off Tifa! Oh man, she looks good. We got to see her in actual combat alongside Aerith. We also got details regarding how they're setting it up for Episode 1. Apparently, they're expanding on the Midgar story and that will be the entire premise of the first episode. They even went on to boast that it's about 2 blu-ray discs worth of content. It's release date is confirmed as March 3 2020. Now, this will most probably be delayed but heck, it's closer than what a lot of people expected.
